What Is A Nursing Home And What Kind Of Care Do We Provide?

There are so many terms for adult care, that it is easy to be confused about what type of care is best for your loved one. Dementia care, residential, care home, respite and nursing, to name but a few.

Churchfields Care Home provides residential and nursing care and prides itself on the outstanding care provided to those who require this level of support. Our qualified nurses and dedicated care assistants enable those who require additional support to enjoy a fantastic quality of life. In addition to residential care, for those who require a greater level of care or condition-specific support, our nursing team can provide help with personal care, dressing, washing and medication.

Whilst residential homes provide support around the clock, seven days a week, nursing homes are able to provide that higher level of care. But this absolutely does not mean that quality of life should be affected.

Our latest CQC inspection commented on our commitment to making our families and residents feel included in everything we do, creating a homely environment where each and every resident is valued. And this is something that we intend to deliver regardless of how much actual care a person needs.

Nursing Needs

As our nursing team at Churchfields is on site at all times, we are able to provide short term and long term nursing care, to those with a variety of needs. It may be that an individual is in rehabilitation following an illness or operation, and the nursing care will be temporary. Or it could be that the care will be longer term.

Nursing care means that we can support this living with particular conditions, or with complex care needs, such as:

• Stoma care
• PEG tube care
• Catheter care
• Dressing changes
• Physical disabilities
• Complex conditions
• Dementia
• Terminal illnesses

It is likely that your loved one will already be under the care of an external medical practitioner, such as a registered nurse, GP or social worker. Our nursing team has built positive relationships with these professionals and will ensure they liaise and communicate with anyone involved in the care of a resident, including dentists and physiotherapists.

A Skilled Nursing Team

Ongoing training and support for our care team, including nursing and dementia care, is a priority at Churchfields Care Home. It ensures the best possible care for all residents and is reflected in our Outstanding CQC report. Providing continual expertise to our nursing team, our Clinical Lead Nurse oversees all nursing care being provided. They will continually assess the nursing needs of an individual to determine any changing needs or preferences.

Each and every resident in our home will be able to access the facilities and activities programme delivered by our engaging lifestyle coordinators. Regardless of a person’s ability, we take the time to get to know everyone to determine the things they love to do and see. Our varied activities are inclusive and can be delivered anywhere in the home. Whether it be a visit from the local toddler group, a painting session, or a celebratory meal, we want everyone to be involved.
